Case Study: Mental Health Assessment
In society, there are numerous psychological disorders. To proper diagnoses and
treatment these disorders is not straight forward and very complexed. To understand how to
diagnose and treat a mental health disorder, I analyzed a case study of an individual suffering
from a disorder in order to develop a mental health assessment. In this mental health assessment
the details of the case study of why the client came in for treatment and symptoms will be
explained. This assessment will also identify a specific mental health diagnosis for the issues the
client is experiencing. In addition, the ways the mental health disorder could affect the daily life
functions of the client will also be explained. Finally, a specific treatment plan and
recommendations to treat the client’s mental health disorder will also be described to include
how the family of the client can get involved in the treatment plan.
In the case study, a client name Jim came in for treatment because he was experiencing
periods of very high exhilaration, feeling full of energy, talking very rapidly and needing very
little sleep. In addition, he was making very grandiose plans, once giving away all of his
belongings because he planned to move to Washington, D.C. so that he could advise the
President of the United States. When the high exhilaration subsides, the client stated
experiencing periods of feeling very low. During these periods, he did not take care of himself,
he wanted to sleep all the time, and he often makes thinly veiled references about wanting to
commit suicide. So far, the reason the client came in for treatment and current symptoms have
been explained. This information will be used to identify specific mental health diagnosis.
