1. name and describe the 4 subdisciplines of anthropology.
The four subfields of anthropology are
-Cultural anthropology: Cultural anthropology deals with the development and history
of human culture. One of the things that cultural anthropologists do is study different
cultural groups that have unique identities, views of reality, and values that are very
different from the anthropologists. All over the world people in different cultures
experience a different way of life through learned experiences.
-Archaeology: Archaeology can be defined as the study and interpretation of past
societies and cultures from the earlier times on earth to the present day. Archaeologists
study the behaviour of past cultures by collecting and studying the cultural remains of
people in the past. This is done by excavating sites created by humans in the past and
then the cultural remains are analyzed to understand the past which can be challenging
for archaeologists because the remains are sometimes hard to study.
-Physical (biological) anthropology: Physical, or biological, anthropology focuses on the
study of biological aspects of human beings, past and present. Physical anthropology is a
biological science and the importance of this subdiscipline in anthropology, is the
contribution to the holistic biological understanding of humans. Physical anthropologists
focus on both the biological nature of, as well as the evolution of humans over time.
-Linguistic anthropology: Linguistics is the study of language. And linguistics is
classified as a subdiscipline of anthropology, The task of linguists is to try to understand
the structure and/or rules of a language. The different grammar systems and different
ways of producing sounds as a way to understand the language, is a tool for insight on
cultural behaviour.
