Discuss some of the challenges Razarevic faced as an expatriate when he decided to move to shanghai how he convinced others to join him on this foreign assignment. Razarevic, as an expatriate, faced ... various challenges when he decided to move to China in order to improve the technologies in the country. The first problem e faced was when he had planned to move to China. He strived to convince the members of the Cisco china research and development centre (CDRC) to move with him to China because the visit had already been granted, and the quest was yet to begin. He also tried to mitigate all the challenges and the members who realized that the transition might benefit Cisco, they became part of the team moving to China, making a move more successful. He faced the challenge of creating awareness of his company and products in china because the people in China did not have any knowledge about Cisco. This brought about challenges in introducing the system in the country and get invited to work on the improvement of the operation in the country. Razarevic experienced the problem of converting Cisco’s documents from the American form to the Chinese form. This is as a result of Chinese services not being offered without the real documents being used. He, therefore, had to encounter various challenges to have the documents changed, which also facilitated the financial constraints the company was facing. Another cultural problem that Razarevic faced is the language barrier. He was an American who spoke in English, but he had moved to China where Chinese was the dominant language. Speaking in English resulted in discrimination by Chinese residents. As a result of the isolation, he could be mentally and psychologically ill because he had begun to feel unwanted in society. Lastly, it was a challenge to move all the equipment and supplies to Shanghai in China from San Jose in America. Razaveric had to create relationships with the Chinese government officers in the customs offices, which was very difficult. They were also required to understand the Chinese regulations and to formulate strategies of getting certified to import goods. This required patience resulting, and it was time-consuming considering that Operations sold have begun immediately. What is some implication of the move to the office in San Jose? Would this move be viewed positively by the home office given that some R&D work was being transferred to shanghai? San Jose was Cisco’s initial Headquarters, where the buy-in from the top of the company's system was located. The implication of moving the office was that the region would hold the executive leaders from CDRC and Cisco’s strategy board as well. The primary operations of the company were also to be moved because the development officers and the vice president was to be located in the area as well. Gronski ran the systems and solutions quality business Unit and by relocating to Shanghai as the managing director meant that he was ready to assemble a leadership team that would manage the company operations in China. The move was still viewed positively because the CDRC strategy board that was in San Jose was still involved in the company operations. The board was the centre of expertise where all ideas and decisions were made. Both boards from San Jose and China met quarterly to formulate the strategic direction and to facilitate the alignment with the corporate's business initiatives. This depicts that the primary operations were to be done in the head offices in San Jose. Cisco also decided to establish a Research and Development centre in China because it would generate more profits for the company. In this case, Cisco was looking for something that was generating losses and turn it around to make profits. This move would not only be viewed positively but also made profits for the company even when the R&D was being transferred. The strategy board and other vice presidents of Cisco were in agreement with the plan, and San Jose was the best location for the offices since Cisco was where the establishment was to be made.
