Community Teaching Plan: Teaching Experience
Educational programs have played a central role in achieving the objectives of Healthy
People 2020. Over the next decades, educational and community-based strategies will continue
to significantly contribute to the enhancement of health outcomes in the U.S. these programs are
tailored to reach individuals outside of traditional settings such as schools and communities
(Reif, Whetten, Wilson, McAllaster, Pence, Legrand & Gong, 2014). The health care settings
provide opportunities to reach individuals utilizing social structures. This maximizes effect and
minimizes the time and resources needed for developing the programs. Communities have great
levels of contact with such settings both directly and indirectly. The use of nontraditional settings
helps promote information sharing within communities through social interaction (Watts,

with the Healthy People 2020 objective of minimizing and eliminating deaths and costs related to

HIV infection. Paying attention to the different aspects of the lesson, I reviewed such objectives
as instructor input, and guided and independent practice. The plan took into account meaningful
data and available information to highlight the need to address HIV/AIDS. An important
strength of the teaching plan is that it centers on the idea that the strongest and most effective
way to combat and eliminate new HIV/AIDS is through primary prevention.
