That chronic inflammation of Rheumatoid arthritis causes tremendous damage within the joint itself. That’s why people who have Rheumatoid arthritis and other autoimmune diseases end up on biologics they are to suppress our immune system, which can cause some bad side effects. In RA the fingers can get swan neck deformities, and they have Bouchard’s nodes. Osteoarthritis Osteoarthritis is due to old age, trauma, its due to other things that may cause joints to feel a little warm. However, it is not the inflammation that causes the arthritis. With Osteoarthritis you will get Heberden’s nodes which are basically just enlargements over the distal flanges (knuckles get large but degree of straightness doesn’t change). GOUT People can develop gouty arthritis in other joints such as knees and even fingers but, personally as a nurse practitioner over the feet is where it is most commonly seen, classic picture.
