Children are not as easy to communicate with as adults. Child nursing is one of those
areas that require special skills and knowledge on how to handle children. This knowledge is
necessary especially in ensuring that child patients feel safe and accommodated during their
medical care (Coatsworth-Puspoky & Ward-Griffin, 2006). Pediatric care, therefore, is a field
that deals with the treatment and care of children. Pediatric nurses are the ones that are tasked
with the tender care of these children during their medical care. They are professionally trained
to handle children with the tender care that they need once they have been taken to a pediatric
facility.
These specialists have the responsibility of using both verbal and non-verbal cues to
communicate with their patients (children in this case) and to generally sooth them (Butcher,
2002). This proves the point that pediatric nursing has to go beyond just being a profession, but
also a calling. Even though they will be the ones to constantly check on the child patients’
progress, nurses are just a few of the many stakeholders in a care facility setup. Some of the
stakeholders include doctors, clinicians, pharmacists and other members of staff of the pediatric
care facility such as account clerks, receptionists and security officers (Coatsworth-Puspoky &
Ward-Griffin et al., 2006).
Introduction
In the course of their duties, pediatric nurses are required to come up with specific health
plans for every child patient that is under their care. This is followed by an implementation plan
that outlines how and ensures that this health plan is strictly adhered to and that it is geared
towards the recovery of the patient under their care. Once a patient has been brought into a
pediatric facility, the registered nurse in charge is required to come up with a clear step-by-step

health recovery plan for that particular patient. Through this plan, the nurse is able to see to it
that every patient is provided with the necessary prerequisites for their recovery.
