What is rapport and how does it help to improve understanding and demonstrate respect in
the workplace? (50–60 words)
Both worker and client would like to be treated as individuals with their own unique issues and
needs. They both want to be understood and respected this is done by developing rapport.
Rapport - a relationship with mutual understanding, trust and agreement between people, it
also makes successful communication with others. Sharing experiences between worker and
client its method and building rapport that leads to comfortable relationships when the
comfort factor is established, work-based discussions will follow.

List and briefly explain three characteristics that help to demonstrate respect. (120–150
words)
Appreciation – people instinctively like people who like them and have sincere understanding
of clients and colleagues that develop rapport and cement relationships
Body Language – can be used with good effect when interacting with clients. Body language
can indicate interest which includes facing the other person squarely and maintaining eye
contact and head nodding which shows you are listening and understanding what is being said
Keeping Promises – Trusting relationships shat support clients to feel confident can be shown
by undertaking actions as promised, if you can’t meet that promise the person straight away.
If you promise a client that you are going to do something for them then do it as soon as you
can, but if you can’t then tell the client straight away and tell the why you cant.

How does body language help when communicating with others? List three examples of body
language that demonstrates interest in what a person is saying. (60–75 words)
Facing the person squarely – by placing yourself with your body and head squarely towards a
client shows that you are interested in them, and that you are giving them your full attention
Maintaining eye contact – maintaining eye contact shows the client you are interested and
paying attention, and you are listening to what is being said
Head Nodding – acknowledging communication by nodding the head is used to indicate
agreement, acceptance or acknowledgement to the person
