Evidence Based Practice Task 1.docx Evidence Based Practice and Applied Nursing Research Task 1 -XAP1 Western Governors University A. Quantitative Article “Exercise and Vitamin D in Fall Prevention Among Older Women A Randomized Clinical Trial†Background or Introduction The aim of this study was to observe older women, on the use of vitamin D supplements and exercise programs and these having any correlation of preventing or decreasing the number of falls they experience. Review of the Literature Twelve different articles (in-text citations) were used to help support the researchers introduction of their study. Two examples used by the researchers to support their study included: fall prevention programs are known for being key components in fracture and injury prevention in the older population and vitamin D is known for being essential for bone health and metabolism in humans especially the elderly population (Uusi-Rasi et al., 2015). Data Analysis The data collected using a CONSORT diagram (Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials). The CONSORT diagram used, utilized four different categories including; vitamin D and exercise, placebo and exercise, vitamin D without exercise and placebo without exercise. Once these categories were established the primary goal was to measure monthly reported falls.
