Prisoner_Re_entry_Comparison_Program.doc Prisoner Re-entry Comparison Program CJS/255 Prisoner Re-entry Comparison Program Unfortunately, in society there will always be criminals and they will always need to be transitioned back into society. It is the job of corrections to make sure that the inmates that are released are as prepared as possible for the challenges that they will face once they are released from jail. Through a thorough examination of two programs, the Allegheny County, in Pennsylvania, Jail-Based Reentry Specialist Program and the Mentally Ill Offender Community Transition Program, in Washington, it will be determined which is the better program. Though society would like to see these criminals remain behind bars forever that is just not possible nor is it fair to them as they deserve a second chance as well and one of these programs may well be it. Program Comparison The Allegheny County Program is a two-phase reentry program that has a total goal of decreasing recidivism by enhancing inmates™ move back into the community. Its first phase would provide the inmates with training and services to help them get ready for release while they were in jail. Then when they are released, the second phase inmates will be provided with up to one year of supportive services in the community.
