PHI 105 Topic 1 Discussion Question 1 A thesis statement guides the reader to what the writer is going to say in the body of an essay. PHI 105 Topic 1 Discussion Question 2 Based on your definition of critical thinking, what is the value of critical thinking to you personally, academically, or professionally? PHI 105 Topic 1 Discussion Question 1 Answer: To improve my memory, I normally exercise my brain through different memory games. I challenge myself each time to remember something for long periods of time to assure that my brain gets stronger and stronger. I think in the future I can add some techniques to this, I read that many people write things in repetition to help remember or make certain visuals. One thing I do to memorize vocabulary words is just that, I make flashcards I write the name on one side than the definition a picture on the other. This way I can associate the thing I am trying to remember with something I use every day. PHI 105 Topic 1 Discussion Question 2 PHI 105 Topic 2 Discussion Question 1 Do you believe the statement "perception is reality"? Why or why not? PHI 105 Topic 2 Discussion Question 2 Critique the two presentations available under this week's readings. What do you think is done well in each and what do you think could have been done better? Consider presentation best practices such as use of white space, amount of text per slide, font size, etc. In addition, analyze if the content is well-organized, comprehensive, and informative. PHI 105 Topic 2 Discussion Question 1 Answers I do not agree but to some extent this could be true. For example if you were married to your significant other and that person divorced you but you perceived it as your still together. Now clearly that cannot be true at all as he basically just left you but you do not see it that way. So in that case perception cannot possibly be reality. In another example is if a person believe himself unattractive and unwanted by girls and that he believes them to be too good for him, then that is perception is reality. It depends on how you view things. In this case his perception was that he was to unattractive and too unwanted which became a reality because he set himself up for failure. PHI 105 Topic 2 Discussion Question 2 Answer: While both presentations were informative, the first one by far was the better one. It contained images, no grammatical or spelling mistakes, and was well presented in an entertaining manner. The second presentation while it still held all the information required was rather dull, didn't really hold my attention, and contained spelling mistakes. I think the first one by far made use of the white space, amount of text per slide and font size and things like that very well. When I look back on my lifetime, the five most significant decisions I've made are as listed. 1.Getting married five days after I graduated high school. 2. having my son when I was twenty. 3. In 2012, I decided to have a full hysterectomy. 4. Made the decision to go to college to become a Special Education Teacher. 5. After finding out, my ovaries did not remove I plan on having surgery when school out then ends of this month to have them both removed. Each one of these decisions was made with a significant degree of emotion. My son's father was in the Navy and heading out to his post which is why I married right after graduation. I wanted kids early in life, so I was still young to do things with them. That dream was crushed when I found out I had polycystic ovarian syndrome, the chances of me having more kids were slim without medical help. When I made my decision to have a full hysterectomy, it was due to pre-cancerous cells and the fact that I could not have any more kids. Which brings us to present day, I got back into working in the school system when I made the choice to become a teacher and go to college. I was at work one day when all of a sudden I could not sit or stand in a comfortable position; I ended up being taken to the ER. It was there that I found out that I still had both my ovaries and my right one was enlarged and needed to come out. After seeing the proper doctor about it, I wanted both of my ovaries removed as I did not want to have to go through this down the road with my left one. I was upset and angry at the same time, but I requested to have the surgery after I got off for summer. I have to see a kidney doctor before the surgery to have stents put in and to have a kidney looked at to make sure that it had not been deformed during the hysterectomy I had in 2012.
