Brookshire Vulnerable Population Assessment
The city of Sicklerville, New Jersey is a nice and quaint neighborhood. It is more family
oriented with several subdivisions and apartment complexes. Some key features include a
community college, a park, an outlet mall, and there is a water park about 15 minutes away.
Imagine not being able to enjoy popping firecrackers with your family. What would you think if
someone stated these words to you, “My marriage is falling apart”, “My wife wont sleep with me
because I’m sick”, “I’m volunteering to be deployed again”, or “The only reason I haven’t killed
my self yet is because I don’t want my dog to go to someone else, he’s all I got…forget PTSD”,
how would you feel if this was your husband, wife, sister, brother, child or dear friend? Post-
Traumatic Stress is alive and real. From 2011 – 2015 there were 1,977 veterans living in Camden
County. There is no visual or physical way you can tell if there is a veteran among you and that
they are dealing with PTSD unless they have a breakdown in front of you. I would like to know
if there is a way we can assist our veterans in living peacefully in society instead of dying
silently on the inside.
Vulnerable Population
The vulnerable group that I choose is veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder
(PSTD). There really is no way to distinguish this group from anyone else in the community,
these men and women are just normal people that have experienced a traumatic ordeal while in
the military. I know of at least 6 veterans that stay in my community and I am close to a couple
of them. From my stand point these guys are strong willed, great husbands and fathers with a
great career. You would never know that they are dealing with issues that make them feel weak,
