This covers all of the most common medications to show up on the ATI and all of the most necessary information for a passing grade. All meds are listed with their corresponding drug class for memorization and if they had any important key notes, they have been included. Chlordiazepoxide; benzodiazepine (flumazenil is antidote)
Alprazolam; benzodiazepine (flumazenil is antidote)
Buspirone; nonbarbituate anxiolytic
Sertraline; SSRI
Paroxetine; SSRI
Fluoxetine; SSRI
Trazadone; atypical antidepressant (can cause sedation)
Amitriptyline; tricyclic antidepressant, adjunct to pain meds (can cause anticholinergic effects)
Phenelzine; MAOI (no tyramine in diet)
Lithium carbonate; mood stabilizer (toxicity at >1.5, don’t give with diuretics)
Carbamazepine; mood stabilizing antiepileptic, used as adjunt to pain meds (can cause blood dyscrasias)
Valproic Acid; mood stabilizing antiepileptic (can cause thrombocytopenia)
Haloperidol; first gen antipsychotic (can cause EPS and NMS)
Chlorpromazine; first gen antipsychotic (Can cause EPS NMS)
Risperidone; 2nd gen antipsychotic (can cause weight gain, DM2, high cholesterol)
Clozapine; 3rd gen antipsychotic (can cause weight gain, DM2, high cholesterol)
Methylphenidate/Amphetamine; stimulant for ADHD, conduct
Benzos/clonidine/propranolol/carbamazepine cocktail; cocktail for safe alcohol withdrawal
Disulfiram; for alcohol abstinence maintenance (will cause vomiting if alcohol ingested)
Naltrexone; for alcohol/substance abstinence maintenance to suppress craving
Methadone; opioid replacement for withdrawing/quitting opioid abuse (discontinue SLOWLY)
Bupropion; nicotine/substance abstinence maintenance to decrease craving
