SCI-228 Week 3 Lab Assignment: Lipids and Protein Lipids and Protein One of my favorite late-night stops from a night of clubbing when I was younger was Jack in The Box. I loved this place beca ... use it was open 24/7 and the food was just so good. Now, after a night of partying I will admit that nutrition was not on my mind and now that I see how bad the food was, I can only imagine how hard it really was on my body. I no longer eat the way I used to as I have had bariatric surgery. I have learned to try to be good as I do not want to risk gaining the weight back. Unhealthy Meal My go to meal when ordering my late-night drunken cure was a Sourdough Jack Sandwich, medium seasoned curly fry and a regular size root beer float. I will now analyze my past choices in food intake and then determine what changes need to be made in order to improve my food intake and nutritional practices. After careful review, I see how these choices lead to my weight gain, diabetes and high blood pressure issues I had when I was obese. I was able to retrieve the nutritional value of this meal from Calorie King and even able to set up a side by side comparison for review. The decision was made to go with this meal out of pure convenience and hunger. Upon evaluation of the facts it is very well noticed that this is unhealthiest choice to go with at this establishment. Not only was this a poor choice due to nutrition facts but this can sure put some stress on the human body. I will look forward to making better choices in what I order from Jack in The Box in the future. According to the Food Institute’s analysis of data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, millennials alone spend 45 percent of their budget’s food dollars on eating out. Most fast food, including drinks and sides, are loaded with carbohydrates with little to no fiber (Pietrangelo and Carey and Holland, 2018). Upon the digestion of this meal, carbs are released as glucose resulting in your blood sugar to increase and your pancreas releasing insulin. The frequency of this can lead to risks of weight gain, insulin resistance, and type 2 diabetes. Other results of this unhealthy eating and high sodium can lead to high blood pressure, heart attack or stroke. Nutrition Facts – Healthy Meal SW Grilled Chicken Salad Creamy SW Dressing Med Brewed Iced Tea Calories 383 % DV * 190 % DV * 4 % DV * Total Fat 15 g 23% 19 g 29% 0 g 0% Saturated Fat 6 g 30% 3 g 15% 0 g 0% Trans Fat 0 g 0 g 0 g Cholesterol 90 mg 30% 20 mg 7% 0 mg 0% Sodium 1090 mg 45% 740 mg 31% 12 mg 1% Total Carbohydrate 27 g 9% 3 g 1% 1 g 0% Dietary Fiber 7 g 28% 0 g 0% 0 g 0% Sugars 6 g 1 g 0 g Protein 35 g 1 g 0 g Potassium 880 mg 55 mg 149 mg Alcohol 0 g 0 g 0 g (Calorie King.2020) Nutritional Analysis – Healthy Meal The healthier meal although still not the best had a lower calorie intake which is a plus for my weight management. This is still a really good-sized portion of a meal, but the lack of fried food does make it better on the cholesterol. The sodium is even lower in this meal which is a good thing as well since the last meal was so unhealthy it was like a heart attack waiting to happen. The best alternative of all would be to eliminate the tea and replace it with plain ice water which will also eliminate more sodium from the meal. These choices although they may not seem like it would a huge difference, in the long rung would be healthier. References Calorie King (2020, March 24) Compare Foods.
