Performance Task C109 .docx Elementary Mathematics Methods C109 Performance Task Western Governors University Part A Hands on Manipulatives: https://www.hand2mind.com/category/math/353 Use/Application Manipulative 1: AngLegs are straight pieces of plastic of varying lengths that snap together and can be used to form angles and shapes. Advantage of Manipulative 1: One advantage is AngLegs allow students the opportunity to practice measuring perimeters and area of the shapes they created. Disadvantage of Manipulative 1: A classroom teacher will not be able to purchase a whole classroom set because they are expensive, so every student will not be able to use them at the same time. Use/Application Manipulative 2: Plastic two-color counters are circle disks with yellow on one side and red on the other. Students can use these to help with addition, subtraction, and multiplication. Advantage of Manipulative 2: These are very inexpensive, so a school district could easily provide classroom sets for teachers. Disadvantage of Manipulative 2: These are small and could easily be hidden in pockets or backpacks by students wanting to take them home to play with them. Use/Application Manipulative 3: A deck of playing cards can be used for number sense or making patterns. Advantage of Manipulative 3: Students can play a math related game. They learn while having fun. Disadvantage of Manipulative 3: The cards can easily be damaged and may not last very long.
