The diverse representation in The Sneeches helps students gain perspective for understanding the world by showing a cartoon-ized way of explaining that all people are equal, no matter how they look. Within The Sneeches, there are creatures with stars upon their bellies and others who do not; The “star bellied sneeches†believe themselves superior, looking down upon the plain bellies. However, upon the use of machines that place or remove a star, the sneeches could not tell each other apart, who originally belonged to the “superior†or the “lesser†group.
