Traumatic Events and Addiction Treatment
Clients may experience several traumatic events before seeking treatment. It may take a near-death experience such as alcohol poisoning or a tragic car accident before someone realizes that they need help. Or perhaps it is a friend or family member who initiates treatment by making a professional aware that one of their loved ones is struggling with an addiction. With the array of treatments available, addiction professionals must be able to assist clients by assessing their needs and guiding them in the right direction.
For this Assignment, view the video, "Experiencing a Traumatic Event," and consider how the traumatic event has resulted in the individual seeking addiction treatment. Support your response with references to the resources and current literature.
Write a 2 page paper that addresses the following:
1. Describe the traumatic event that occurred in the case study, and explain how the event made Greg realize that he needed treatment.
2. Explain the steps that Greg took to seek out and obtain treatment.
3. Describe any challenges that Greg faced in receiving treatment.
4. Explain strategies for how an addiction professional might help Greg overcome those challenges.
